Sometimes, hundreds of soldiers would walk out on Washington at one time once their enlistment was over. To fix this, Washington convinced Congress to make enlistments longer. General Washington was able train and sustain a fighting force for a much longer period of time.Washington was a strong leader. He led his army to victory over the British Empire. Washington showed courage and passed that onto his soldiers. Washington maintained his fighting force, and won the war over the course of eight years.
